After establishing himself as a successful celebrity photographer, he transitioned to making feature films. He is best known for his films The Panic in Needle Park () and Scarecrow (), which won the shared grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
Career
Schatzberg was born to a Jewish family of furriers and grew up in the Bronx.[1] He photographed for magazines such as Vogue, Esquire and McCalls.[2] He made his debut as a feature film director with 's Puzzle of a Downfall Child starring Faye Dunaway.[3] He went on to direct films such as The Panic in Needle Park, which starred Al Pacino in , Scarecrow,[4] which shared the grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival,[5]The Seduction of Joe Tynan with Alan Alda and Meryl Streep,[6][7]Honeysuckle R
