  • Leyvas was one of the first men arrested for the Díaz murder, and he was subjected to intense questioning from police.
  • 12: The Los Angeles trial of People vs. Zammora which began in October 1942 ends. Seventeen defendants are found guilty of various charges in connection with the August 1942 death of 22-year-old Jose Diaz at the Sleepy Lagoon swimming hole.

    The 12 found guilty of murder are sent to San Quentin State Prison.

    Henry Leyvas, 20, worked hard on his father's ranch until the day in August 1942 when he went down to the Sheriff's substation, because he heard they were.

    In separate trials, five others are acquitted.
